Instructions
1. Choose a research topic and clarify a purpose for your infographic. Are you simply presenting information, or are you persuading your viewer? Gather the information needed for your project. Spend some time gathering details for your project. You will need a healthy number of facts to present, as well as graphics and artwork to help illustrate your main ideas. Complete the Infographics Planning Worksheet to prepare for your project. Be sure to include specific details and grade-level appropriate vocabulary. Some examples could be content from your science class or as simple as how to make a hot chocolate. Pick something that interests you.
2. Sketch a draft of your infographic design. Consider the purpose you identified in Step 1, and choose a visual style that matches the purpose. Are you explaining a process, defining events along a timeline, labeling parts of a diagram, or representing data meant to inform or persuade your viewer? In your sketch book or an Illustrator Artboard, draw a sketch of how you will lay out your research.
3. Build your infographic design in Adobe Illustrator. Be sure to consult the Infographics Rubric so you know how your final product will be assessed.
a. Make your artboard 11” x 14” in RGB color mode.
b. Use copyright free artwork, and create as much of your own artwork as possible. Use graphics with your information to illustrate (graphics, charts, icons) and organize (text boxes, arrows, lines).
c. Carefully choose typographical settings to make your text easy to read and visually appealing. Use font, colors, and size to demonstrate hierarchy of information.
d. Arrange the elements of your project on your artboard. Apply the Principles of Design to create a product that is harmonious and visually appealing.
e. Be sure to proofread your final product for spelling and grammar.
f. Export your final document as a High Quality PDF for printing.
