SkillsUSA
What is SkillsUSA?
SkillsUSA is a Competition in which students from this class compete in Graphic Design. Just like as in participating on a sports team, it is extra-curricular. Students work together, students practice and prepare, students meet new friends and have a lot of fun. When the time comes, SkillsUSA members will miss 3 days of school and compete in Graphic Design related and Leadership related competitions. The Nevada SkillsUSA Competition is in April each year. The competition location is either in Reno or Las Vegas depending on the year.
Who can participate?
2nd & 3rd level students are usually the students more willing to compete because they are more knowledgeable in Graphic Design.
But we encourage Level 1 students to participate just as much as older students because just going to the competition allows students to gain experience. Younger students can go and basically see and observe what the competitions are like, and that right there, can prepare them to compete later on.
When?
SkillsUSA participates in like jobs during class.
The actual competitions are in April of each year!
FOR MORE INFORMATION see Mrs. Castorena
SkillsUSA is a CTSO! What is a CTSO?
CTSO stands for Career & Technical STUDENT ORGANIZATION!
This is like being on a CTE Team – [like athletic team where you would practice and compete – hopefully winning a state championship at the end of the season]!
OR
think of it like a club – [where your meet together once a week, you all work together, you meet new people, and even become great friends who support each other with the end goal]!
This can also be a way to challenge yourself and work independently on bettering your skills.
Have you ever needed to polish your leadership skills, things like dressing professional, writing a resume, presenting, and becoming a great public speaker?
Well SkillsUSA is ALL of that and more!
The best part is students gain industry "REAL World" EXPERIENCE through the process of competition!!
