Packaging Redesign
Goal
Students will experience a typical assignment for a packaging designer and gain a greater understanding of the skills and work involved to successfully complete a graphic design packaging project for a company.
Project
Each student will choose a product line of non alcoholic beverages to REDESIGN. Your redesign will consist of the following:
- New labels/packages - You will create the package and label
- Social Media Ad - Please indicate what social media outlets you would post the ad in.
- Poster - and a sketch of how you would like your beverages displayed.
- T-shirt - I will provide t-shirt and t-shirt printable
- Sticker or other promotional item for your beverage.
Criteria - Expectations of your work
- Creativity
- Adherence to Assignment specifications
- Craftsmanship - professional appearance in mock-up
Instructions
- Choose a non-alcoholic beverage to redesign.
- Research your product - history, origin, nutrition, ingredients, past branding etc.
- Take note of things that can be improved.
- Logo
- Hierarchy
- Typeface
- Photography
- Colors

Suggestions
Your objectives when designing a package are:
- be aware of recycling and wastefulness
- be aware of packaging as both a three-dimensional and a
- two-dimensional design problem
- consider all sides of a package in the design
- design an attractive, aesthetically pleasing piece that is
- appropriate for its intended audience
- ensure legibility and clarity
- research the competition
- make it stand out from the competition
- consider it will be seen in multiples when on display
- express the spirit or personality of the product and company
- consider the appropriate color associations
- coordinate it in color and design with other choices in the
- product line
